When you rely on commercial moisturizers to moisten your lips, your body will reduce it's production of natural moisturizers while at the same time, giving you a sense that your body's own natural moisture isn't sufficient. Stop using the stuff and you'll be fine. If you need additional moisture on your lips, my dermatologist suggested swiping some from a greasy/oily part of your face and using that instead of chap stick or petroleum (vaseline). Why is it when i have chapped lips i use vaseline, lip balms etc and my lips go really soft, ?
Usually your body builds up an immunity to what your using; also why you're not allowed to be on antibiotics too long because your body won't fight for itself if it doesn't have to. Same with your lips. If you continually put moisture on them, they will cease to create the moisture that they otherwise would, or at least produce it in smaller amounts because it now depends on you to moisturize. I'd suggest switching up lip balms from time to time and try to take some time off when you can. You can also get some OTC lip balms that are lightly medicated, try Carmex.
If you have a bad habit of licking your lip, that can cause extreme dryness of the lips, which results in chapped lips. To keep that from happening, use the lip balms and vaseline to replenish the moisture that is lacking in your lips.

Try using the vaseline at night and use the lip balm during the day. The added moisture will keep your lips moist and full. Good luck!
